Admissions Policy for Nursery Education Provision

Nursery education places are provided in the following LEA settings :
Nursery schools and early years settings
Nursery classes or Foundation Stage Units attached to primary schools
Special schools, including community nurseries
1.LEA nursery provision is community provision. Nursery education places in LEA settings are open to all children irrespective of where they live.
2.A child’s name can be placed on one or more LEA nursery waiting list any time from birth onwards.
3.In the case of a nursery unit attached to a primary school, separate waiting lists must be kept for nursery and school. A place in the nursery does not guarantee a place in that school, nor is attendance at the nursery a precondition of a place in the school.

4.Children are entitled to start nursery the term after their third birthday
5.Stanbury, has three separate intakes into nursery. These are at the start of each term.
6.Places are allocated as follows: 9 pupils in term one. 3 pupils in term two and 2 pupils in term three, if other places are available.
Places will be allocated to children in the following priority order :
7.Children with profound special educational, social, health or emotional needs, as evidenced by a professional from health, social services or education
8.Living within 1km of the school, and resident for at least 6 months, or is the nearest nursery to them.
9.Siblings of older children in school and the children of employees.
10.Waiting list order.
11.Children in the priority age group: children who have had their third birthday and are due to become four in the current school year.
12.New arrivals in the area or on the waiting list who fall into the priority age group.
13.Nursery classes in primary schools are, in special circumstances, able to offer full time nursery places. Special circumstances will usually relate to the cognitive, physical, social, emotional or developmental needs of a child or family circumstances, as evidenced by a professional from health, social services or education, or alternatively parents should put their wishes in writing to the headteacher.
The decision to offer full time places, in the nursery, is at the school’s discretion.
14.Parents are able to defer their child’s admission into nursery by up to two terms. - they will then move to the top of the waiting list for the next term.*
15.Parents wishing to defer entry should do so in writing.
Should more than 2 children defer in any one term then further deferrals will be at the discretion of the Headteacher. Should the Headteacher rule that it is not in the interests of the school for a child to defer a place then that Child will risk loosing their place as they will be placed at the bottom of the waiting list, if they insist on deferred entry into the nursery.
16. Stanbury Village School offers lunchtime care for nursery age pupils until 1pm. There is a charge for this facility.
17. Any appeals should be in writing to the Headteacher who’s decision is final.
